Cooking Creations and Free Stuff!

I'm not usually one to throw things together in a pot and hope they turn out. I'm more of a recipe kind of girl. But last night I was feeling a bit creative...

We had left over steak, and I was kind of worried about reheating it since it was already a tad dry and I didn't want it to get more so...I already live in the desert, and that's about how much dryness I can take.

I know I'm not the first person to do this, but I came up with a little casserole to make. I chopped, salted and boiled some potatoes. Threw them in a casserole dish with thinly sliced steak, added Cream of Mushroom Soup and a half a cup of milk, topped it with cheese and threw it in the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

The result? Quite tasty actually. The boyfriend came home from the gig and had two plates full (seconds is always a sign of success since he always tells me my cooking is delicious even when it's not).

In other news:

Didn't the title mention free stuff?

Why yes it did. This week's special is this. Buy anything in my shop and receive this Ribbed Zig Zag Headband absolutely free!

Simply type "FREE HEADBAND" in the notes to seller when you're buying your item.

As always, everything in my shop has free shipping anywhere in the US and Canada, so come on by and treat yourself to something warm and cozy as the cold winter approaches.

Volleyball is Hard Work

Yesterday, I did living statue instead of magic, so I actually got out of work at 2 instead of 7...This meant I could join my friends at Sunset park for a game of Volleyball.

Now first I have to mention, that I'm horrible at volleyball...in school, I was the girl who ran away from the ball (I was so afraid of looking like an idiot), but with friends I'll go for it. Looking like a fool in your 30's in front of friends is waaaaaay different that looking like a fool in front of you teenage peers.

The court was a sand court, and man, I didn't realize how strong those beach volleyball players were. That's hard work running in the sand. By the end of the second game my legs were jello and I looked like one of those people who had just finished the Iron Man.

I did score a few points...that's not really a show of my technical prowess, more a show of the other team being just as bad as we were.

The boyfriend and I were so exhausted afterward that falling asleep while watching the History Channel was about all we were capable of doing.

Sunday Funday Video --Cooking Disaster--

With the holidays coming up, this video is not only amusing, but a reminder to be careful if you decide to deep fry your turkey...Remember, only the bird is supposed to be cooked.

Camping and Scuba extravaganza!

So, Wednesday afternoon, we drove to Bullhead City, AZ which is about an hour away from Las Vegas and just across the Colorado River from Laughlin. They have these great camping sites right on the river and that's where we set up camp.

We ate our favorite camping food which is egg, cheese and ham, grilled on an english muffin in our grilled cheese maker that we held over the fire. We ate waaaaaay to many of them...but we always do.

Then it was s'mores! We ditch the graham cracker and just stick the chocolate right in the middle of the marshmallow and roast them until it's all melty....we ate too many of them too.

The next day, we packed up our stuff and drove to Cabinsite Cove on Lake Mojave. The water was sooooooo cold...even in our wet suits. We went down to about 60 feet and the water was so clear we could see everything (except for the thing we were looking for).

After a rest, some grapes, some water, and some pretzles, I took over the navigation and we went down again. The water seemed even colder the second time...but no matter, in a couple of minutes I found the sunken school bus we were looking for. It had been sunk there for search and rescue training. We swam all around it, but we were both too chicken to go inside. We floated there, gesturing "after you", "no, after you," until we were both way to cold to stay down any longer.

It was a great trip!

Friday's Favorites! --New Shops--

For this week's "Friday's Favorites" I decided to focus on new shops or shops with less than 10 sales. Not only was I amazed at the talent in this group of people, but I was also touched by the number of shops nominated by some of the "old timers".

Please take a look at these...throw them some hearts...or better yet, get some of your holiday shopping done early this year! I tried to include something for everyone!

Submissions! Less than 10 Sales!

I'll be out of town tomorrow...going camping and scuba diving, so I'm asking for submissions today for the "Friday's Favorites"!

This week, I'm looking for sellers with less than 10 sales. If this is you, post your favorite item from your shop in the comments. Let's get you some more exposure so the sales start rolling in.

If this isn't you, but you know a shop that has less than 10 sales and you want to submit one of their items...that's totally cool too!

Check back on Friday for the favorites!

If you buy this lovely Red and Green Diamond Scarf you will get a $5 rebate via paypal! All you have to do is type "$5REBATE" in the buyers comments and by the end of the day you will have it back in your paypal account!

Who says you can't buy Christmas things in the fall?

Prodigal Daughter --Book Review--

I just finished reading The Prodigal Daughter by Jeffrey Archer. Yes, I know, another Jeffrey Archer book. I'm reading a new one now too, but after that, I'm going to give him a rest for a bit.

This book, I would have to say is one of his better ones, although, in most of his books, the bad guys get what they deserve. In this one, there wasn't the payback element that I enjoy so much. I must honestly say though, there were sections of the book where I couldn't wait for work to be over so that I could find out what happened next! I love it when a book affects me like that.

Super short summary:

"The novel begins with the birth of Florentyna Rosnovski and continues with her life as she comes of age, attends college, and begins political life in a quest for the presidency. "

In other news:

I was supposed to have the day off today, but unfortunately one of the singers is sick, and there isn't anyone else to fill in for her...so today, I get to pretend to be a singer...should be fun.

Sunday Funday Video...Literally!

Ok, so in the 80's, I thought I was the only one who didn't understand most of the music videos...well, it seems that not only am I not the only one, but someone has remedied that situation for me.

Now here's a video that says exactly what it is!

Read, listen and watch...it's not the same song you've heard before.

Working Magician

Last week I had not one but two magic gigs back to back.

The first one was really interesting because it took me a little out of my comfort zone. Usually I walk around a party with a crystal ball doing contact juggling (like the movie Labyrinth) which sets me apart so when I approach a group of people to perform, they already know that something is going to happen.

This time, they wanted me in a business suit, with convention badge and wanted me to walk amongst the "real" business people, pretending to be one of them, and then at the right moment, start doing some magic. I was so nervous and uncomfortable the first couple of times, but by my third group I was thinking, "This isn't so bad", and by the end, I was having a lot of fun with it.

The next day, was another strolling event, but this time the boyfriend was working too! He was doing stilts, and I was walking around doing magic. He's so amazing on those things! He walks the peg stilts which are small on the bottoms (no feet) kind of like crutches. He dances up there, skips, does time steps, and really brings meaning to the phrase "turning on a dime". I tried to take a couple of pictures before the gig, but now my phone has hidden them from me.

Remember to tune in tomorrow for the "Sunday Funday Video of the Week"!

Friday's Favorites! -Doggie Cuteness-

There were very few submissons this week, so I took them and then did a search on my own. There's something for every dog lover...whether it be clothes, treats, afghan patter or even a custom made ornament with you doggie on the top!

I hope you enjoy these....they are all just too cute!

And tune in tomorrow...I'll be telling all about how this week's magic gigs went.

Dog Sweater and Doggie submissions!

I've made a few sales recently, and I realized that my "doggie stuff" category is running really low on merchandise. So I stopped working on the human sweater I was working on and started working on a doggie one. I just added my newest DOGGIE SWEATER a few minutes ago.

You can click on the picture for a better view.

This one is made from recycled yarn! I bought a really ugly sweater, made from beautiful yarn and took it apart. There was a ton of yarn in the thing. I made a capelet (which sold), and now a doggie sweater. I think at some point when my "scarves" section is running low, I'll make a scarf out of the remainder too!

Submissions!

Last week's Halloween Favorites got one sale! Congratulations ShastaCreations...hopefully we'll get even more this week.

This week's theme is dogs! (In honor of my newest doggie sweater). Post any items you have that have to do with dogs...Pictures, clothing, jewelry, paintings, accesories...Let's see 'em all!

Tune in tomorrow for the "Friday's Doggie Favorites"!

Free Stuff!

Who says all the sales have to happen on Columbus day? I think I shall have one the day after!

Today's sale is this:

Buy anything in my shop, and receive a FREE BEADED SCRUNCHIE!!! (pictured here)

All you have to do is write in the buyer's comments "FREE SCRUNCHIE", and you'll receive one with your order.

Who doesn't like free stuff?

In other news:

I have a gig tonight doing strolling magic. I always get nervous right before a gig...I am always worried about whether the people attending the party will be nice or not. There's nothing worse than being stuck in a room with a bunch of people that don't want to see magic, for 3 hours. You still have to look busy for the client...but looking busy is a lot harder to do than being busy....*fingers crossed*.

Book Review: "Ballad of the Whiskey Robber"

There's a saying that truth is stranger than fiction, well, that saying couldn't be more apt when talking about this book. Ballad of the Whiskey Robber actually has you rooting for the criminal, rather than the law (of whom many were also criminals). It's the kind of book that if you read it and thought it was fiction, you would just say, "That's not a bad story," but knowing that it really happened, made it really fascinating for me to read. With all of his bungled crimes, it's truely amazing that he got away with so much.

If you're a fan of those crime shows where they show the world's stupidest crimes, then this is the book for you...or if you simply like a good story...then you might want to read this too.

Synopsis:

Attila Ambrus was a gentleman thief, a sort of Cary Grant - if only Grant came from Transylvania, was a terrible professional hockey goalkeeper, and preferred women in leopard-skin hot pants. During the 1990s, while playing for the biggest hockey team in Budapest, Ambrus took up bank robbery to make ends meet. His opponents: a police chief who learned how to be a detective via dubbed episodes of Columbo; a deputy so dense he was known only by his Hungarian nickname, Mound of Asshead; and a forensics expert-cum-ballet teacher who wore a top hat and tails on the job.

Part Pink Panther, part The Unbearable Lightness of Being, part Slap Shot, this uproariously funny, exuberantly praised book tells the remarkable story of a crime spree that galvanized a forlorn nation and made a nobody into a somebody - a tale so outrageous that it could only be true.

Sunday Funday: Practical Joke Video

Who doesn't love a practical joke? Well, besides the person that it's being played upon.

I've never been one for doing them myself, I can never think of anything creative enough, but this one is just great! I'm guessing it takes place in a dormitory or boarding house of some sort...I know if it were me that walked in on this, I'd be changing my pants shortly afterward.

Blog about a Blog....

I don't often blog about other people's blogs here, but every once in a while I see something cool or interesting that I feel like sharing with everyone.

Yesterday I read a post all about these hoarders in Harlem written by TheLostEarring. It was really interesting and it reminds me that there are crazier people than me out there (which is nice since I'm a bit of a nut job), and there are worse hoarders out there than my boyfriend (which was hard to believe).

Freeky Friday's Favorites...and reality tv?

First off, I had no idea what my gig was going to be at 7am yesterday. Since it was through the Venetian, they told me what time to show up and what to wear. I thought it was going to be for one of those really early convention meetings where they hire people to keep the conventioners awake at such an early hour.

...I was wrong.

Instead, it was a filming for a reality show that's going to air on ABC this spring. It's called something like "The Face of Vegas", and basically it's a spokesperson compition. Their challenge was to shoot a commercial to bring people to Las Vegas, and I was one of the characters. I didn't do much, just handed a plateful of croissants to each contestant when they said their line. The hardest part was not eating them in between takes (the croissants, not the contestants).

It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

...Now onto the Friday's Favorites!

This week, I thought, was the perfect week to feature Halloween favorites. It's October already, so the spirit is upon us...but it's early enough for you to get items shipped to you in time for the big event!

Check out these cool items, and maybe buy yourself a few...they'll be sure to get you in the spirit of things.

Halloween Submissions

I'm doing the submissions this week a day early. Tomorrow, I have a gig at 7 am (I thought magicians were supposed to sleep in?), and I won't be able to post tomorrow.

Since we're getting closer to Halloween (but far enough away that things can still be shipped in time), I thought that this would be the perfect week to feature all our spooky (or Orange and Black) items.

Simply post the link to your Halloween item in the comments, and tune in on Friday to check out the favorites!

Last week, one item was sold! Lets try for more this week.

Standing Still...For a living?

For the past 2 days I've been doing a living statue gig at a convention here in town. It's always strange to me when I do it somewhere other than at the Venetian.

Luckily I have friends that lend me their costumes (as the one I usually use is property of the Grand Canal Shops), and lend me their podium. I usually buy them wine or something as a thank you.

The podium I'm using this time, is 2 feet tall and is wide enough just for my feet. The coolest part, though, is that my dress falls down over it, giving the illusion that I'm 7 feet tall. Imagine the surprise on people's faces when I jump down for my break, and it's just little old me.

Today is the last day, and tomorrow will be spent mostly recovering on the couch.

In Treasury News:

NattyKnits just put me in a treasury! Yay!!!! It's been a while since I've been in one. The last time it made it to the front page, my first time ever!

Sunday Funday Video!

I don't know why I enjoy watching dominoes fall down. It's peaceful and cool all at the same time. I would never have the patience to build something up like that only to destroy it with one push....but I love to watch it.

In this video, I don't know what I like more...the dominoes falling or the random cat...I think it's probably the cat, since it looks very similar to my late Betty.

Anyway....enjoy!

Head Cold?

You know you want this beret for yourself...buy it before someone else does.
No, we must keep our heads warm. And as winter approaches, I made a new Rainbow Wool Beret. I love how the colors of the yarn blended together so nicely, and how it almost has a completely different look from the back to the front. You can click on the picture to see all of the angles.

Right now I've started on a wrap-around sweater made from recycled wool. It might take me a while, so I might have to take a break halfway through and make something small to satisfy my instant gratification complex.
