It was written in the 1950s, and while there is no gore or murder, there are plenty of things that go bump in the night. However, the book is such a psychological thriller that you begin to wonder if those things are real. Jackson's writing is genius. She gets the reader so wrapped up into the character's psyche, that you can feel your heart pound when the character is scared and thinking frantically.<BR/><BR/>"No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more."<BR/><BR/>Sorry, long comment.
