Review --When Will There be Good News--

Wonderful story! A must read!
During my hectic week I managed to finish a really wonderful book When Will There Be Good News by Kate Atkinson. I had picked it up at the library because it sounded interesting, but wasn't prepared to love it as much as I did. I didn't even know that one of the characters appears in other books by her, so I must check them out as well.

Everything about it was wonderful. I fell in love with each of the characters, and was actually disappointed when it was over. The plot was compelling (although there were a few coincidences, in there), and it kept me turning the pages. The writing was also wonderful. What could have been a run of the mill thriller, was brilliantly executed, and some of the observations made me giggle (though it wasn't a funny book).

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story.

Synopsis (which doesn't do the book justice)

On a country road, six-year-old Joanna Mason is the only survivor of a knife attack that leaves her mother and two siblings dead. Thirty years later, after boarding the wrong train in Yorkshire, Brodie is almost killed when the train crashes. He's saved by 16-year-old Regina Reggie Chase, the nanny of Dr. Joanna Hunter, née Mason. In the chaos following the crash, Brodie ends up with the wallet of Andrew Decker, the recently released man convicted of murdering the Mason family. Enter DCI Louise Monroe, Brodie's former love interest, who's tracking Decker because of a recent case involving a similar family and crime. When Dr. Hunter disappears, Reggie is convinced she's been kidnapped and enlists the reluctant Brodie to track her down.

New Stuff!

I've been able to list a couple of new things in between my hellish schedule but I hadn't had time to blog about it until now...so here you go!

Blue and Pink house socks...warm and cozy!
I made these Blue and Pink House Socks recently. I just love the color combination. I keep telling myself that the next pair of house socks are going to be for me, because mine are old and worn out, but then I'm so proud of them that I want to list them, and I think, OK, next pair...lol.

I also made and relisted this Green Cable Headband. I've sold it twice before, so I thought I should give it another go...they're so much fun to make, and green is one of my favorite colors. It keeps the ears warm and the hair back...what more could you want?

In Other News:

I was working and wasn't able to watch the Superbowl and see all the cool commercials...If anyone has a link to some of their favorites, please post them in the comments, I'd love to see them.

Super Bowl Sunday Funday

Yesterday I wasn't able to post. At 7am I was at Town Square doing a charity event for the Make-A-Wish fun run. It was reeeeeaaaaallly cold...what is it with people in Vegas doing outdoor events in February? Then at 11, I was at the Venetian doing my usual six shows, and then after that I had a gig until 9:30pm. Long day, so you can see why I was a bit slacking...but now, I'm back on schedule.

Video of the Week

Most of my readers are from the US, but not all, so I must explain that today is the biggest game of the year for American Football. It's a day where even if you don't watch it at all, or care for that matter, most people will know the score or at least who one. It's also the only day of the year where I put in a bet at the sports book...although, this year I'm not since I have no cash on me this morning and I refuse to bet on credit. If I had bet, it would have been for the Saints (I'm usually wrong, so we'll see how my virtual bet goes.)

In honor of the Superbowl, here's a video of some football bloopers for your enjoyment.

It's over......YAY!!!!!!!

I have finally finished the single hardest gig that I've ever done in my life. For the past four days, I've been doing living statue, outside, in the cold for 8 hours a day. We'd stand there for 2 hours, and then get a 30 minute break.

My feet are sore and swollen, my body feels like one big bruise, and I'm so thankful that it's done.

I wanted to quit so badly, but I just had to keep telling myself, "Four days and the mortgage is paid, four days and the mortgage is paid" over and over again. When standing perfectly still for two hours at a time, you can tell yourself lots of stuff over and over again.

Unfortunately, we did such a good job (there were 4 of us doing this), that they want us back again in August. I'm not sure I'll be up for it, but I'll have to weigh what my bank account says, with the 100+ degree heat.

Today, there will be a lot of couch sitting and lying down...I might have to leave the house soon though, but only to buy donuts to celebrate my wonderful morning.

One more day

One more day of this gig that I'm doing.

Living statue outside is very hard and very cold...especially for 8 hours a day in 2 hour sets.

I won't be able to do the "Friday's Favorites" this week, but next week, everything will be back on schedule.

Crack of Dawn...

Ok, day one of the convention I'm working and it's 5:45 am and I have to be there at 7...yikes!

I'm doing living statue for a carpet company, and I'm worried that I'll fall asleep while standing up. I tried to go to bed early last night, but I couldn't fall asleep, and then I started stressing that I wouldn't get enough sleep, which then kept me from falling asleep...it was a vicious circle.

I woke up on time...which is really half the battle...the next half of the battle will be getting through the day.

Here goes nothing!

This is me this morning

Sunday Funday Hamster

I saw this video and thought it would be perfect for the "Sunday Funday Video of the Week"!

I love watching the dog agility stuff on TV, but this is the first time I've seen a hamster do it...I don't even know if my dog could do it.

Enjoy:

In other news

I have a magic gig tonight, and then I'm working a convention all next week. I have to be there at 7 IN THE MORNING! Now I have no trouble waking up at 7, but being there at 7 is a whole different matter. So if I miss a blog post this week, I hope you'll understand.

The mortgage company understands, though, I think they're getting all the money I'm making this week...lol.
