Kitty Toilet Training: I give up

For those of you that don't know, I was trying to train my cat, Alfred, how to use a human toilet. For more of the back story, Click Here.

Well, I've finally given poor Alfred his litter box back. I feel like a failure, but I think he's happier now, which is what is important. He was doing really well, until I had to start lessening the amount of litter in the bowl. This did not please him. He found that the laundry basket was much more to his liking, especially if there were clothes inside.

I tried watching him and working with him, but he likes his litter full. Now he's back to being a regular (albeit psycho) kitten. Maybe I'll try again when he is older, but for now, I'm gonna be scooping litter for the foreseeable future.

No Resting

Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest...isn't it?

Of course I have to work later on, plus I have to clean up a bit as I've been working the past few days and when I do that the house falls apart. I reeeeally need to finish this sweater I'm working on as I have a buyer in England waiting for it, and I need to buy an airline ticket to visit my mom.

I'm going up to Oregon soon to visit her. Oregon is so pretty, plus it's much cooler than Vegas. I actually mean that temperature-wise, but downtown Portland is pretty cool in the other sense too. Now don't get me wrong, I love Las Vegas, but it would be awesome if Vegas had Portland's weather.

The dogs need a bath too, but I think that can wait until tomorrow.

...but this couch is so comfortable, and the dogs are all snuggled up next to me...*sigh*...maybe a few more minutes before I get started on anything.

Kitty Toilet Training 7

I'm currently training my cat to use a human toilet. For more of the back story about this, Click Here.

Alfred has been doing great....mostly. When using a bowl in the toilet, I found it has to be cleaned a lot more than a regular litter box, and failure to do so as quickly as Alfred would like results in alfred having a pee in some other place. This has been trial and error on both of our parts.

For the past week though, all fluids and pieces have gone in the correct place, but because of the mishaps, I'm afraid to take the final step and remove the bowl. I don't keep very much litter in there now, and I know he's a bright cat, but I think I'm gonna give it at least another week before taking the plunge.... and lets hope he doesn't plunge as well.

I really can't wait until this is all done, however the boyfriend and I are going on a trip soon, and Alfred will be staying with a friend. We might have to go back a couple of steps when he gets back... poor kitty might be too confused.

Sister Visit

So, this past week my half sister came to visit for our birthdays. Mine was on the 4th; her's was on the 6th.

We rented jet skis in Lake Mead and sped around the lake for a couple of hours. We took them all the way down to Hoover Dam. I thought it would be a unique way to show her the famous structure.

I have to admit, I was a bit scared at first and would only take the thing around 10 mph...especially in the Black Canyon where the dam is because it was so windy. By the end of our time, I was getting the thing up to 40 and was catching air on some of the waves. Not X Games air, but plenty of air for me.

She was fearless, and though she had never been on one before was going circles around me. She is 12 years younger than me, so besides me being inherently chicken, she had the fearlessness of youth.

By the time I got home, I was sunburned. Of course I put on sun block, it's a necessity in the desert (especially when it gets above 105), however in my hurry and excitement to get out on the water, I missed a few key spots.

The tops of my feet were totally burned (my shoes hurt so bad when I put them on), plus I had a couple painful splotches on my legs and behind my shoulders. I, of course, couldn't be sunburned in a way that gave me that stylish sunkissed look... no, I had to look like I'd contracted some sort of skin disease.

Everything is all healed now, and I've been sticking to shade and/or air conditioning (what a great invention).

Sunday Funday Video: Dog vs. Pool

I know that last week I didn't do the video of the week, but I hope that this video more than makes up for it.

This bulldog really wants and indoor pool, and since he doesn't have one, he decides to take matters into his own hands.

Kitty Toilet Training 6

For those of you that don't know, I'm training my cat to use a human toilet. For the back story, Click here

Yesterday, we had our first accident. I started removing the litter too quickly from the bowl in the toilet, and I guess Alfred wasn't ready for it. I cleaned it up and added some more litter to the bowl, and I think everything is ok now.

He's been so smart and quick with everything so far, that I guess I over estimated him. He still likes to have something to dig before he goes, so this stage might have to go on for some time.

This is really the hardest part of the training for me, as every time I need to use the toilet, I have to lift the seat, remove the bowl, put the seat down, do my business, and then afterward reverse the process. I'm pretty sure the boyfriend is over it, but I'm sure after it's all over, being in a litter free house will be well worth it.
