Submissions: Red, White and Blue

Every Friday I put together a treasury of some of my favorite items made by etsy sellers, post it on my blog and call it the Friday's Favorites!

Last week's treasury: Chocolate and Toffee Dreams had 115 views, 27 comments, 46 clicks, and 10 favorites!

This week, in honor of Forth of July, I'm looking for RED, WHITE AND BLUE!

If you have anything in your shop with these patriotic colors, post the link in the comments and check back tomorrow for the Friday's Favorites.

Don't have anything patriotic? Feel free to nominate a friend's piece and help spread the love.

I will be looking in the forums as well, but I always consider the blog submissions first.

Boyfriend Returns

I apologise for not having the Sunday Funday Video this week. Yesterday I was quite worried as the boyfriend had not come back from his iron butt ride. He was due in at around 10:30am but there was no sign of him.

I figured something had happened to his phone, as my phone had stopped tracking him somewhere in the middle of Utah, but I didn't really start getting worried until the next day.

By 6pm I was truly freaking out, and that is when he finally hobbled through the door.

He'd run out of gas somewhere near the salt flats and had to push his motorcycle 7 miles to get to a gas station. When his arms finally gave out from pushing, he left the bike and walked the rest of the way to get a gas can.

When he'd returned, he realized that he'd left his hazard lights on and now his battery was dead. It took another few hours before he was able to hail a police car who gave him a jump start.

The phone had gotten lost way back at another fill up. He hadn't secured his saddle bags and it must have flown out.

He's back, a little worse for wear, and quite sore. I'm just happy he's alive and he's home.

Motorcycle Boyfriend

Today, the boyfriend is going on a loooooong motorcycle ride in order to qualify for a group called the Iron Butts. You have to ride 1000 miles in 24 hours to be accepted in the group. He said it was too windy to go sailing and he didn't want to waste his day off.

He's plotted out his course, and I have to sign a thing as a witness when he leaves and when he comes back. He also has to collect his gas receipts to proove that he's gone the required distance. I know my butt couldn't take it...after two hours I'm really hurting.

Of course the first thing he has to do is wake up. I told him I could only be his witness if he leaves before ten as I have to go to work. He's got about a half an hour from now until I bring him some coffee and shake him awake... We'll see if he makes it out of the starting gate.

Friday's Favorites: Chocolate and Toffee

Brown is one of my favorite colors, and not only because it's the color of chocolate. It's a great neutral that isn't as stark as black or white, and it gives a lovely warmth to your skin tone.

Gigs and Hoover Dam

It's been a hectic past couple of days...

Last night I performed at a birthday party. Even though I'm a magician, I rarely do birthday parties, but the price was right so I went for it.

I was warned that one of the children had Asberger's Syndrome and might prove to be a problem. He was great! All the warnings they gave me I thought it would be really severe, but it was so mild that if I hadn't known, I would have just thought him to be a little quirky.

In other news

The boyfriend and I actually had a day off together...that is really a rarity. We thought it was going to be a too windy to take out the boat, so we just watched movies together all day. (I did work on a custom sock order while we were watching)...

Then later when it wasn't too hot anymore, we took the motorcycle out to my favorite wine bar and ate cheese platters. The boyfriend had already had one glass at home, so he couldn't partake since he was driving, but I sure did!

Then, since we were so close, we took the bike up to the Hoover Dam. I hadn't been there at night since they built the bypass, so the road was completely deserted which was so cool. You're not allowed to stop on the dam when it's closed, but we stopped in a parking area just above it and enjoyed the view.

Friday's Favorites: It's Not Wrong to be White

White is not just for weddings, the color speaks of elegance and sophistication. It's a great color to wear for summer, and as for accessories, not to worry it goes with everything!

Here's this week's treasury:
It's Not Wrong to be White

Unfortunately today there is a problem with the treasury widget, and it keeps saying etsy API error, so I cannot post the treasury on the blog. Not to worry, you can still see it at the link above!

Power Ranger for a Day

So, while I was in Oregon, I got texted to do this gig where I had to dance. Even though I used to be a professional dancer (mainly ballet), I hadn't done a thing in 10 years! But the money was right, so I agreed to do it.

It turned out it was for the licensing company that bought the rights to the Power Rangers and we had to dance at the licensing convention that is here in town right now. They had all the power rangers there ever were (which apparently is over 30!).

Picture your typical convention, and then suddenly a mass of over 30 power rangers coming through, and then all of a sudden the theme song starts playing and everyone starts to dance. Kind of like a flash mob with helmets.

We also worked with the current Power Rangers as well as one of the original ones who made sure that the choreography was up to the standard of the company.

Now I am so sore! But even out of shape, I was still able to keep up with everyone, so I was quite pleased with myself.

In the picture, that's me and my friend Riki. I'm the one in pink.

Home Again

I got home to Vegas yesterday afternoon. It was so great to see the boyfriend and all of the fur monsters. The weather, on the other hand, not so much.

The weather in Oregon was a beautiful 70 degrees; perfect for a light sweater. When I exited the baggage claim, the force of the desert hit me like a hair dryer. It's not even full blown summer yet...it was probably only ninety. I am living in dread now for when it hits 120 in a couple months.

Today, I'm off to work at the Venetian. I would have liked to stay at home and clean up since the boyfriend was on his own here for a week, but I can't afford it. Hopefully tomorrow if rehearsal isn't to tiring, I'll get started on it.

Portland, Oregon

Today I'm writing from Portland, Oregon. I'm here visiting my mom for the week, and I am totally enjoying the weather. Everyone keeps apologizing for all the clouds and the lack of sunshine, but they forget that I live in the middle of the desert... for me, this weather is gorgeous! I hardly ever get to see clouds, it's such a treat.

At some point this week, mom is taking me to Powells which is the largest independently owned book store. It takes up a city block and is five stories tall, and sells both new and used books. I packed half of my suitcase with old books so that I could both sell them for store credit, and insure that I would have room on the way back for all of my purchases.

There is also the best hamburger shop that I have ever been to, just down the street from my mom's house...dangerously close in fact... It's called Giant Burger, and I will definitely be having some of that at some point during my stay.

In Shop News:

I haven't put my shop on vacation mode, as for this short trip, I can run everything from up here. My patterns are stored online, so I can send them to anyone from anywhere. My boyfriend can pack and ship anything else I send, and knowing how meticulous he is about all things postal, he'll probably do a better job than me.

PS: Found an adorable picture for this post, but blogger won't let me add images at the moment.

Sunday Funday Video of the Week

This adorable video would have been cute even without the sound, but add the music, and you have cinematic genius!

Enjoy!

Magic for Foster Kids

Last night, after performing at the Venetian, I did a charity event celebrating foster children's high school graduation. It was awesome, and I felt so touched seeing all of the accomplishments of these young people.

On the walls they had all sorts of stars with the names of famous people that were foster children, and I couldn't believe all of the famous names that they listed. Of course now at 8am, I can't come up with a single name (I'm only on my first cup of coffee), but it was all really impressive.

The kids and their families were great. They were all so polite and really enjoyed the magic. Though I mainly perform for adult corporate parties, I have performed for kids of all ages and all walks of life, and I must say that the foster children and the orphans that I have performed for in years past are so much nicer than the rich kids I've worked for. They don't feel like they need to put on airs, and feel free to simply enjoy the magic.
