Getting Ready to Take Off

Today is my last day of work before I leave town, then I'll be gone for two and a half weeks.  First I'll be going to my mom's funeral in Oregon, then off to Wisconsin for a vacation with the boyfriend and his family.

I really hate getting ready to go, but I love going once I've gotten there.  Well, to the Wisconsin part of the trip, that is.  The Oregon part isn't something that one particularly looks forward to.

I have a knitting project started so I can work on it while I'm there. I got the house sitter all situated to keep an eye on Alfred (the cat)... The dogs are driving to Wisconsin with the boyfriend, so I'll be meeting them all up there. The boyfriend wanted to take Alfred too, but I finally convinced him that cats do not travel well, and it would probably stress him out.

Running... Two steps back

Today was my first run since I've been sick.  I know that technically I only missed one day of running, but it felt like a lifetime.  I didn't complete my full run; I ran 1.8 miles, which a few months ago would have been a huge success, but now it seems like going backward.

I've learned that at least half of running is in your head.

Today, I went out thinking, "I'll do what I can," and that's exactly what I did.

When my mind is strong and I go out with a good attitude, my brain can urge my body on.  When I go out wondering if I'm going to make it, I never do.

Oh well, there's plenty more running days out there, and I'll do better next time.

Friday's Favorites: Nautical

As the weather gets warmer, we make a break for the sea. Some can do it in a car, while others need to use accessories to get that nautical feel. Can you smell the ocean breeze yet?

Sick, now Better

I was so sick for the past 24 hours.  Not cold sick, but flu sick... I don't think it was food poisoning, because the boyfriend wasn't effected. I felt like Linda Blaire in the Exorcist, it was that bad.

All day yesterday, I just lay there, trying to sleep.

Now my back hurts from laying around too much.  How much of a wimp am I when I can hurt myself merely by lying down?

The boyfriend cheered me up when he came home from work. He brought medicine, ginger ale and some new yarn. He's got a really good eye for stuff like that and I can't wait to make something out of it... the yarn, that is, not the ginger ale or the medicine.

I'm doing much better now, though today is going to be playing catch up for all the stuff that was supposed to get done yesterday.

Gig went well

Last night's gig went pretty well.  I did my make-up before the last show at the Venetian, so all I would have to do was get into costume once I got to the venue.

It was a good thing, too, lots of traffic.  I barely made it.  Between the fight traffic, people going to sports books for game 7 traffic, and electric daisy parade traffic, I'm surprised I'm still not sitting in my car.

The people were great, even the kids! They were all polite and fun, which, when teenagers are like that, it tends to surprise me.  What a great gig.

The pictures are still on my phone, and I haven't synced it yet, but I'm sure whatever you have in your mind is better than the ones I took...lol.

Boyfriend Teaches Make-Up Skills

Gigs have been really slow as of late, so when I got the chance to do magic at a Bat Mitzvah, I jumped at the chance.  The catch? I have to be a clown.

Boyfriend Balancing Plates
Now my boyfriend was a real clown on Ringling Brother's Circus, so of course I asked him for help.  Together we stood in front of the mirror as he gave me step by step instructions on how to do my make up.  It didn't come out too bad.  Unfortunately, I will have only 15 minutes to do it in as I finish performing at the Venetian at 6:45 and the gig starts at 7:30 in a different hotel.

I kind of feel like an imposturer doing this as I feel clowning is an amazing art. The boyfriend actually went to clown college and everything! But, I need the money... This gig is going to help pay for the work I miss when I'm on vacation with the boyfriend.

I'm on a Billboard!

I've always wanted to be on a billboard.  To be driving along and look up and say, "That's me!"

Well, it finally happened.  I did a photo shoot for the Venetian, and now the image is plastered all over the hotel, plus there's a billboard on Spring Mountain Road right near the Strip!

Unfortunately, I am wearing a mask, so even my mother wouldn't recognize me.  But at least I know it's me.  Plus many of the other performers know since they have seen me in that costume on many occasions.

So here it is, me and my billboard:

I'm the one in the red shirt, lol, plus the one in the picture doing the same pose.

Discover Card Woes

So, believe it or not I do try to be responsible with my bills.  Sometimes things get confusing, though. About half of my bills now come through my bank as ebills, and half come via snail mail.  Of the snail mail bills, half still get paid on line.  It's no wonder that I forgot to pay my discover card bill.

So they called me and wanted to take what I owed them from my bank account.  I had just deposited a check, so I said ok.  They not only took out what I owed them, but they took it out again, wiping me out!

I didn't realize this until I got an overdraft.

So of course I called Discover, and they said it would take 3 business days to get the money back into my account. 3 days!!! It only took a couple of seconds to take it.

When I said that now they had left me with absolutely no money, their reply was, "Well, at least you have a credit card."
