The vacation was fun, but it was really hot, and that's saying a lot from someone who lives in Vegas. The main problem with the heat was not the humidity, I like humid, it was the lack of air conditioning.  I'm so spoiled here where everything has central air.  Of course it's just my luck that I go to a cool place like Wisconsin and they're in the middle of a heat wave! Go figure!

There was lots of swimming in the lake, but believe it or not, there were two days where even the lake was too hot to swim in.  On the other days, however, it was awesome to get super hot and then jump right in.  One morning I had my coffee while on a floaty chair in the water.

I did miss having the camp fires at night, but it wouldn't have been enjoyable this time around.

Now I'm back in Vegas with my central air and loving life.

Well, it took a while figuring out things, but I finally got my blog a new look.  I had the same look since I started it years ago and I figured that it was finally due for a change.

Tim Burton Does it Again

Last night, the boyfriend and I watched Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland". I know it came out forever ago, but it's hard to find time to actually go to the movies. It was wonderful!

First of all, the film was beautiful to look at. I'm not always one who notices that kind of thing as I usually concentrate on the story, but this one really popped, so I couldn't help but see it.

Of course the story was one of my favorites since childhood, but I really dig the older Alice coming back to slay the Jabberwockey. If you haven't seen it yet (and I probably was one of the last people left who hadn't), then put it on your netflix list.

...but first... Gibbs, the newest member of our doggie pack is getting along just fine. (can 2 be a pack? or do you need 3? I don't think the boyfriend will let me get another one right now). He's starting to get the sniffles though, probably a little kennel cough. Before we get to the deal of the week, I have to say that I did something I rarely do... I put a book away without finishing it. I try to mix into my reading some classics every now and again, so I tried to read Crime and Punishment.

Well, I should have known not to open the book, when every Russian friend I had said they read it in school and hated it. If they hated it in their native language, what chance do I stand? But, it took it as a challenge.

I'm sure there are many translations out there, some better than others, but I have no idea how one would make that story readable. I'm so glad I never had to read it in school. Though I hate to leave a book unfinished, there are so many good classics out there, why read one that sucks out my will to live.

In other news:

Heading to LA today to help my friend find a place to live. Of course this is the worst time to be driving to LA because of the holiday season, but she has to be out of her place by the first because her landlord wants to move back in. She won't let anyone drive her car, so I think my job is to keep her awake...especially on the drive back.

Almost There

I didn't quite finish the gloves as I had intended, but the second one is almost finished, and I have an episode of "The Biggest Loser" to watch, so I think I might get it done by the time they start weighing in...well, at least that's the plan.

Then I have to go a recording studio to record a sound clip for the one woman show. At the very end I have a conversation on "speaker phone" with my aunt, and the recording that we have isn't a good one, so now we have to do it all over again. Hopefully it will be all set by tomorrow for the first paying audience.
