Getting 21st Century With It

So, I know that everyone and their grandmother has a twitter account, except me... well, until now.

I have now joined the bandwagon and got a twitter account. It's so exciting! Ok, well, I'm not really that excited yet; I'm still learning the ins and outs of it.  It should be fun, though.

If you want to follow me, I'm at:

Dreams

Some people dream of riches, and some people dream of stardom. And for me, though those things would be nice, I dream of a maid.

Imagine, all of those never ending clean up chores that one has to do every day, simply being taken care of. You wouldn't have to worry if you were too tired to do the dishes and that they would pile up and attract insects, they would "magically" be cleaned.

It's such a beautiful thought...

Someday, when my income is steadier, I'll start out with a cleaning woman (or man) and work my way up.

I could hold off on a new car, better clothes or super cool electronics, as long as I didn't have to clean.

Why oh why can't I be one of those people that actually enjoys doing it?

Switching Credit Cards

So, the other day, my friend calls me up and asks, "Do you have anything of mine?"

I said, "I don't think so."

She said, "Well, when we went out on Tuesday and paid for our meal, I think we switched credit cards. I was at the store, and when they asked for my ID, they said the names didn't match and I realized I had your card."

We both go to the same bank and we both have identical cards... who knew?

"Uh-Oh," I said, "I spent $15 at Panda Express."

She replied, "Oh good, I spent $13 at a restaurant."

We were both working the next day, so we switched our cards back then.  Before work, though, I couldn't resist and kept sending her texts like, "I can't wait to show you my new clothes I got at Bebe." and "They didn't even card me when I bought my new Rolex!"

Now I have my card, and all is well. Thank goodness it was in the hands of a friend.

Free Crochet Pattern

American Flag Dog Sweater
I really want to get my pattern for my American Flag Dog Sweater up for sale, but I'm worried that the star I created will be difficult to understand in the directions.

So for this week, I decided to give the pattern away for free for those that want to try it out and give me their feedback.

Simply send me an email at SleightlyWordy@aol.com and I'll send you the pattern. I would really appreciate the feedback, especially on the star.

Thanks you guys!

Lace Knitting

I've been on a lace knitting kick lately and finished a short sleeve lace sweater the other day.  I will still need to photograph it on my day off.  I'm really happy how it turned out, but I haven't tried it on my mannequin yet.

I always get really nervous when I finish a new piece before I put it on the dress form.  I worry that after all the hard work I put into it that it won't fit right, or look right and that I'll have to scrap the whole thing.  I wouldn't want to sell something that didn't fit right.

Now I'm working on a poncho that's lace knitting and beaded.  Though I've done a few beaded crochet projects, this will be my first beaded knitting project.  I've been working on it between shows at work, and my manager doesn't think I can finish it by the end of the week.  What better motivation for finishing a project?

I don't have a day off yet in sight, so it might be awhile before I'll have any photographs to show you guys.

Breaking Records

So I did my run today, and though it was totally exhausting, I beat my record. Hello 12.2 minute per mile pace! That's about 4.9 mph.

I just kept saying in my head, the faster you run, the faster it will be over.

I don't know what my sister's pace is, but I'm trying to get as fast as I can so I don't embarrass myself when I see her in August. She's been running for much longer than I have, so she's probably much faster than I am.

Next run is Wednesday. Hopefully I can keep this pace up and not revert back to my old times. Fingers crossed.

Getting Slower

I don't know if it's the heat, or what, but after running my best average time, now I'm getting slower and slower. I'll start out at a good pace, and then, after less than half a mile, I'll feel like I'm dying and then I'll slow down.

I'm still running 2.6 miles with my goal being 3.1 (which is a 5K). I want to get my pace up a little bit before I make my run longer.

This whole running thing is still pretty new for me.  Most of my friend's that run, go to a gym and use a treadmill which of course will keep their pace where they want it.  I, however, don't belong to a gym, and the thought of running in place when there's free sidewalks everywhere just seems stupid to me. So to increase my pace, I have to do it all on my own.

Sunday is my next running day.  We'll see where it goes from there.

Book Review: Forever Odd

I just read the second of the Odd Thomas series, by Dean Koontz. This one was called Forever Odd. Though many of the amazon reviews hated it compared to the first book, I loved it.  I really enjoy falling in love with a character and then seeing what happens to them next. These books really make me want to meet this "odd" guy in real life, and fictional characters like that are hard to find.

If you haven't read the first book, Odd Thomas, you might want to read that one first as a lot of the characters are set up in that one.

I'm reading the third book right now, Brother Odd, and so far, so good.

Synopsis:

Grieving the loss of his fiancee, killed during the climax of his eponymous debut despite anything he and his supernatural intuition could do, Odd Thomas returns in a more suspenseful but less piquant adventure. Only a year older (21), he feels almost ancient and more rueful than ever about his gift for seeing ghosts, Dr. Wilbur Jessup's in particular. The loving stepfather of Odd's brittle-boned friend Danny was alive yesterday, so Odd investigates, as the "psychic magnetism" that attends his ghost-seeing compels him to, and finds the physician brutally murdered and Danny missing. Odd tracks Danny and his abductors to an abandoned casino-hotel, closed by an earthquake that killed dozens five years ago. It's a trap. Danny is bait to draw Odd to Datura, a spookily self-absorbed, wealthy porn entrepreneur and New Age nut, who, obsessed with violent death, wants Odd to make ghosts visible to her.

New Looks

USA Dog Sweater
Well, it took a while figuring out things, but I finally got my blog a new look.  I had the same look since I started it years ago and I figured that it was finally due for a change.

USA Headband
As you can see, I still need to put in a new banner. I haven't decided yet whether to use my shop banner, create a new one, or create a new banner for both of them.  I'm sure if I think about it for a while, I'll come up with something.

There is also a new sale going on.  35% off all of my USA items until Memorial Day! The coupon code is: USASALE

I've also been doing a lot of reading recently, and I'm hoping to do a book review tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Template Woes

I didn't post yesterday as I was trying to change up my template.  I didn't want any that blogger offered, so I tried uploading some off the web.

The one's I really liked, didn't actually work when I uploaded them, and it would come out in one column instead of 3. Finally I gave up and went back to my old template, but I lost my banner (which didn't really fit anyway).

If anyone has any good template suggestions, I'd love to hear them.  I'm tired of how my blog looks now (it's been a few years), and I'd really like to change it up.

Picking up the Pace

I'm still running 2.67 miles, but my pace has really improved.  Now I'm running at a 12.4 minute per mile pace.  It's a new record that I reached on wednesday, but I matched it again today.

It makes a huge difference bring water along with me. Now I set little goals along the way: "If I make it to the next corner I can have a drink," or "As soon as I pass that parked car, I can have a drink." Motivation and hydration all in one.

Now that I got my breathing and drinking under control, next I have to work on not getting so tired halfway through... Although it could be because of that hill that gets in my way...lol.

Scrunchies are Fun

Blue Beaded Scrunchie
I just listed this beaded scrunchie today.  I just love the idea of making something everyday, elegant, and I think that the beads do just that.

Great for a night out when you're having a bad hair day. And a wonderful alternative to a boring pony tail holder.

The yarn is super soft to avoid gripping the hair to much, and wrapped twice should hold most types of hair while giving a cool ruffled effect.

I have a few more in the wings waiting to be listed, so keep your eyes peeled.

Book Review: Do Penguins Have Knees

I love to know the answers to life's most trivial questions, and that is exactly what you'll find in "Do Penguins Have Knees?" by David Feldman. It's a part of a series about life's imponderables, of which I've now read three.

I do have to warn you that if you read it, you may annoy your significant other.  Every five minutes I found myself asking the boyfriend, "Did you know such and such?", which really cut into his TV watching experience.

Synopsis:

Ponder, if you will
What happens to your Social Security number when you die?
Why are peanuts listed as an ingredient in plain M&Ms?
Why is Barbie's hair made out of nylon, but Ken's hair is plastic?
What makes up the ever-mysterious "new-car smell"?

Pop-culture guru David Feldman demystifies these topics and so much more in Do Penguins Have Knees? -- the unchallenged source of answers to civilization's most perplexing questions.

Frogging Items

I hate to admit it, but sometimes my ideas don't actually translate to a finished project.  I get started and then I think, "Would I actually wear this?", many times, the answer is no.

Last night, I had about 3 inches done on my American Flag tank top, but the yarn I chose was way to thick, and it was looking way to bulky.  Who wants to wear a bulky tank top in the middle of summer? Away that piece went to the knitting graveyard.

We had just started a movie, and I needed a project and fast. I had an idea for a lacy summer top, so I started on it.  I knew when I began that I would need to get to the yarn shop to have enough to finish it, but hopefully the yarn I have left will let me work on it at work today.

RIP tank top, at some point I'll get some better yarn for that one and try it again.
