My Lovely Thanksgiving

Well, to tell you the truth, my Thanksgiving started out horrible.  Wednesday night I couldn't sleep because I had the biggest headache ever.  And I kept trying to sleep, knowing that if I'm asleep, I can't feel the headache.  Nothing was working.  I knew I had to be up early, as I was doing living statue at 10am.

I couldn't call in sick.  First of all, Thanksgiving is a big money day for statues, plus, if you call in sick on a holiday, you need a doctor's note, so I'd be out the money I would have made, plus the money for the doctor's visit.

At 6:30, the headache finally lifted and the angels sang.  I was exhausted but pain free. I couldn't go back to bed at that point because it would have made it worse when I did get up. So I drank about a pot of coffee and got ready to go.

Now being tired for a normal day of work is difficult, but being tired while you have to stand absolutely still is a monster. Somehow, I managed to get through the shift. Luckily statue shifts are four hours and I was done by 2.

When I crawled through the door, the boyfriend had Thanksgiving cooked and on the table.  I'm so grateful it was his turn this year to cook. He prefers ham over turkey, and if he's making it, he can make whatever his heart desires as far as I'm concerned.  He had ham, corn, rolls and a wonderful bison-green bean casserole topped with cheese and tater tots. Of course there was apple pie for dessert.

I'm am currently waiting to hear from the Guinness judges on whether I have taken the world record in most weight gained in a 12 hour period.  I'll keep you posted. lol.

Happy Turkey Day...and Submissions

Oh boy! I can't wait! It's time to stuff our faces and hang with friends and family...or in my case, my boyfriend. I've cleared a space for the tree that will go up later tonight, I've cooked deviled eggs and an apple caramel cheesecake, and the rest will be cooked and eaten today. I'm very proud of my boyfriend and myself for not digging into the eggs or cheesecake early...that took some willpower, let me tell you.

I'm also especially excited since my boyfriend and I haven't had a full day off together in months...hip, hip...hooray!

LA... Speedy Trip...and plans for Thanksgiving

My friend and I drove to LA yesterday to look at apartments for her upcoming move. It was probably the fasted trip their I've ever done. 4 hours of driving there, then 2 and a half hours looking at places, and then 4 hours home. Who knew sitting in a car could be so exhausting.

I should have brought my knitting as I have lots of stuff to make, not only for orders, but for special family requested Christmas presents. I was worried that if I brought it, I might feel ill...even though most of the time I'd be looking at the road and not my hands... probably for the best anyway.

Today I have to go food shopping for Thanksgiving. Yeah, I know it's kinda last minute, but the boyfriend and I decided to eat in at the last minute just like we did last year. Wonderful dinner, then setting up the tree, and then playing games and munching on left overs for the rest of the night... I think I might try my hand at an apple pie, I've never made one before.

The most wonderful Thanksgiving

Well, if you'd read the previous post, you would know that I had know idea what my boyfriend had planned for Thanksgiving.

He did beautifully!

First of all, I need to impress upon you that the only time I've seen him in the kitchen, he was having trouble making boxed Mac-n-Cheese...so I didn't really know what to expect.

He'd gotten recipes from some of the folks he works with at Circus Circus, and spent days finding all the ingredients. (he can find anything in the snack aisle, but this was actual grocery shopping).

He made a beautiful ham with a root beer glaze, that was quite yummy hot, but even better late at night when we made sandwiches with it. He also made this dish of ground beef, peas and carrots, cooked in a pumpkin with a hard cider sauce. (This was my favorite, not only for the uniqueness, but also because it tasted so good I had seconds and thirds).

There were also veggies, rolls, salad and wine, though I must say, neither of us touched the salad because the other stuff was so tasty that we completely forgot it was there.

Afterward, he brought out a Christmas tree and ornaments that he'd bought. I haven't had a tree since I lived at home with mom 13 YEARS AGO! It's not that I didn't want one, but I would always be too busy and either alone (who wants one when they're alone, or with someone that was not too keen on helping).

We set it up by the fire, and included an electric train at the bottom that we'd found at a thrift store earlier this year. Never before have I felt like I was living in a Norman Rockwell painting until last night.

Sorry, I didn't get anything posted yesterday. Between the Venetian, Johnathan's show and my mom being in town, I was so exhausted that my body gave out and I snoozed in front of the TV all day until I had to go to do the show.

I tend to do that a lot...go, go, go, go, go, and then crash.

I'm hoping today to work on part two of a custom order. I'm making a hat, scarf, and mitten set. The mittens are done, next is the hat...I'm saving the scarf for last because that is the easiest.

In Thanksgiving News:



I still don't know what I'm doing for Thanksgiving. Yes, I know it's a bit late. For a while I thought I had to work tonight, so the boyfriend went out and bought stuff, put it in the refrigerator drawers, taped them shut with a big sign that said, "NO!!"

He said that since he thought I was working, he was creating something special for me for when I got home. I can't wait to see what he's got planned, and I think it's so wonderful that he's done something special for just the two of us.

...hmmmm, come to think of it, maybe I should put one of the fire extinguishers in the kitchen just in case...hee hee.

Friday's Favorites Turkey Style

Yes, it's fast approaching. For some that means stress about planning the dinner, making stuff ahead of time, cleaning the house and more...for me, not so much. I have way too many friends that are doing a dinner and many invites (since my family doesn't live in town, I don't have to worry about them...and since it's a busy time of year, I rarely am able to go anywhere)...so if I were to do a dinner, there'd be no one left to come...and I don't really think the dog, the boyfriend and I can eat a whole turkey.

Well, enough of that...onto the Friday's Favorites! I really wish I was into beading because I'm in love with the turkey beads...maybe one of you out there in cyberspace will like them?

Shrug your Shoulders

Well, the shrug I'd been working on is done and listed. Actually I finished it a couple of days ago, but with all the specials and favorites going on, I thought I'd wait until today to post about it.

It's my first attempt at a shrug and I'm really pleased with the results. It was fun to make, and a lot quicker than making a sweater (though I still really enjoy making sweaters)...

I have something new in the works now, I might even have it ready to show you guys tomorrow...*fingers crossed*

In other news, the shows have been having great audiences, which I really have to enjoy now because Vegas turns into a ghost town after Jan 2nd. The only thing good about that is the time I save when I would normally be waiting in traffic.

Now I'm off to do boring stuff like laundry and cleaning...I always put it off way too long and then I'm overwhelmed.

Christmas Scarf and Turkey for Dessert!

Yes! I completed the Christmas Scarf, and thus completed my goal. Now I'm ready for a nice hot soak in the tub.

Later on, I'm heading out with the boyfriend to have Thanksgiving with a bunch of clowns...no really...I'm not being insulting, that's what they do for a living...former Ringling Bros. Clowns to be exact. Afterward, we're off to meet my Vegas Parents (as opposed to the ones who gave birth to me and live out of state) because they always do a late Thanksgiving dinner. There will probably be less clowns there but definitely more magicians...and if you're a fan of the Showtime Show BullS@#$%t by Penn and Teller, you can catch my Vegas Dad doing the most amazing comb-over you have ever seen.

Now the bath is calling me, but tune in tomorrow for the Black Friday thru Cyber Monday sale.
