Sister Visit

So, this past week my half sister came to visit for our birthdays. Mine was on the 4th; her's was on the 6th.

We rented jet skis in Lake Mead and sped around the lake for a couple of hours. We took them all the way down to Hoover Dam. I thought it would be a unique way to show her the famous structure.

I have to admit, I was a bit scared at first and would only take the thing around 10 mph...especially in the Black Canyon where the dam is because it was so windy. By the end of our time, I was getting the thing up to 40 and was catching air on some of the waves. Not X Games air, but plenty of air for me.

She was fearless, and though she had never been on one before was going circles around me. She is 12 years younger than me, so besides me being inherently chicken, she had the fearlessness of youth.

By the time I got home, I was sunburned. Of course I put on sun block, it's a necessity in the desert (especially when it gets above 105), however in my hurry and excitement to get out on the water, I missed a few key spots.

The tops of my feet were totally burned (my shoes hurt so bad when I put them on), plus I had a couple painful splotches on my legs and behind my shoulders. I, of course, couldn't be sunburned in a way that gave me that stylish sunkissed look... no, I had to look like I'd contracted some sort of skin disease.

Everything is all healed now, and I've been sticking to shade and/or air conditioning (what a great invention).

  1. Ouch! Sunburn is no fun! But it sounds like you had a terrific time with your wild and crazy younger sister!

  2. Oh yes, air conditioning is probably the best thing ever invented! Sunburn on the tops of your feet is quite painful! But sound like you had a nice visit and that is wonderful!
